NICU RNs needed for FULL TIME & PRN NIGHTS for Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD 


Job Summary/ Description of Responsibility

The NICU RN will provide care to normal and high-risk newborn patients that are in accordance with the Standards of Nursing care and the policies and procedures of the clinic. The responsibilities will include but is not limited to administering and monitoring oxygen therapy, ventilator support, and intensive pulmonary care techniques as needed, responding appropriately to rapid changes in patient status; administer specific medications at designated times and in designated manner; receive report and count narcotics with nurse going off duty; perform documentation duties on unit and in patient record which are timely, accurate, and concise; perform complex medication and intravenous (IV) administration to include blood products and Total Parental Nutrition (TPN), IV push and continuous IV medication infusion.

Qualifications/Requirements

The NICU RN must:

Graduated from an accredited nursing school and successfully passed NCLEX exam.

Possess a minimum of two years of concurrent full-time Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last three years.  

Possess and maintain qualifications and skills of Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care nurse proficiency.

Possess verifiable experience with neonates requiring artificial ventilatory support, complex medication management, enteral and parenteral nutrition, intravenous fluid management via peripheral (intravenous and arterial) and central lines (i.e., umbilical catheters, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), Broviac, etc), and continuous monitoring. 

Possess and maintain certification in Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP) through the American Heart Association OR American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer

Possess Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language fluently.  

US Citizen

Be available to work a 12 hour night shift (7p-7a). (Full time is six 12-hr shifts per pay period). Complete statement of work (job description) will be provided by Contract Manager.
