IMMEDIATE OPENINGS for Full-time Orthopedics Technicians

at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Life Support: BLS is required. American Heart Association Healthcare provider

                    Certified by American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) or National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists. (NBCOT)

 

Experience: Minimum of One (1) year of related experience in an accredited health care hospital. The Orthopedic Technician must have at least 12 months experience within the past 24 months. One (1) year of related experience in an accredited health care hospital which results in familiarity with procedures in orthopedics, including orthopedic trauma service, pediatrics, hand, foot and ankle, sports, and/or spine.

 

           Education:High school diploma or equivalent with additional training or education

                            Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or basic orthopedic course

                            Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist/assistant program is mandatory for those applicants hired to fulfill both clinic and operating room duties to                             include scrubbing and circulating.

                            Must have knowledge of fundamentals of anatomy and physiology; principles of asepsis and sterile techniques.

Job Summary/ Description of Responsibility

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

      • Assists physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, fracture reductions, etc.
      • Familiarity with casting/splinting, instrument sets used during orthopedic surgery, radiographic units, orthopedic traction equipment used for orthopedic related procedures, preparing patients for surgery and assisting orthopedic surgeon during procedures and basic knowledge of central sterile supply procedures.
      • Maintains clean and well-stocked cast and soft goods room; orders special supplies and/or equipment.
      • Coordinates data collection resources for the clinic information systems.
      • Remains current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies; performs other duties as assigned.
      • Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery and assisting with post-operative dressings
      • Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, to include restocking surgical supplies.
      • Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.
      • Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
      • Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight and blood pressure.
      • Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs on the correct form.
      • Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination rooms
      • Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in, enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.
      • Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.
      • Management of the 96 MDG Hospital Employee Health Program tuberculosis symptom screening program.
